NOVELLA REVIEW: Destroy Me (Shatter Me #1.5) by Tahereh Mafi

I finally got around to reading Destroy Me by Tahereh Mafi since the release date of Unravel Me is just around the corner. The novella is told in Warner's POV and occurs after the events that took place in Shatter Me

First of all, if you're looking for some Warner and Juliette action them this might just do it for you. Haha. There's a bit of that here. I love reading from the male POV's especially one's whose minds are as twisted as Warner's. Don't ask me why. I just do. Anyhoo, I loved getting to know Warner more in this novel. I actually think he's just a sad boy who wants and needs to be loved. He's not actually as twisted as everyone thinks. Destroy Me actually made him seem like a decent human being. Yes, he's ruthless and twisted but he also has a soft side. Anyway, this just going to be a very short review since this is only a novella but I did love it. I think this is a good bridge between Shatter Me and Unravel Me. Makes you think what's in store for Warner, Adam and Juliette.

BOOK REVIEW: The Pledge (The Pledge #1) by Kimberly Derting

I started reading The Pledge by Kimberly Derting a few days ago and honestly I got bored with the first 4 chapters I think and ended up putting it on hold for a day and decided to read Shatter Me again. Just to be ready for the release of Unravel Me. Obviously, dystopian is my favorite genre. Well anyway, after finishing Shatter Me again, I decided to give this one another try and I'm so glad I did.

To be honest I felt like Charlie lacked personality during the first few chapters. Probably the reason why I almost gave up on the book. But as the story progressed I think her character developed beautifully. I started seeing the personality that was lacking at the beginning. I love the fact that she somehow breaks minor rules to be able to help others. I felt really bad for her whenever she got reprimanded for 'being so obvious' with her gift. It is hard enough to listen to people who talk trash in your face even if you can't understand them but it definitely is harder to listen to them when you do. I salute her for having that awesome self—control. If I were in her place I would have talked back and eventually reveal myself in the process.

Then there's Max. I find him alluring even in he was just full of mystery in the beginning. I liked the fact that the mystery behind him was dragged on towards the middle of the book. It actually kept me hooked since I did find him intriguing. It was actually Max who kept me glued to the novel as the story progressed. I did think that his relationship with Charlie was a bit cliche. I felt like the development of their relationship bordered on insta—love which made it cliche for YA's nowadays. But whatever. He did intrigue me and by the end of the book I just wanted to be Charlie and have Max.

To be honest, the book started a bit slow for me. I did put it on hold for a day but resumed and ended up finishing it in a couple of hours. I love the suspense, the mysteries and the connections of everything and everyone. A lot of the revelations made me say WTF?! Seriously? or Whoa. I think it's just awesome when books make me say these things. The surprise factor definitely amped up this book. I do appreciate the fact that there weren't any love triangles since that would definitely be too cliche together with the insta—love. Anyway, even if it did start a bit slow I ended up reading this in a day when I started again. I couldn't put it down towards the middle and I will definitely read The Essence once I get my copy.

Waiting On Wednesday #9

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine. It features each blogger’s most anticipated books.

My pick of the week would be Unravel Me (Shatter Me #2) by Tahereh Mafi

 SUMMARY FROM GOODREADS:

Juliette's world is beginning to unravel.
Everything is falling apart changing.

Juliette has escaped to Omega Point-the headquarters of the rebel resistance. There she discovers other people with abilities. Abilities they have learned to control. And for the first time in her life, Juliette has hope. Hope that she can have a life with Adam. Hope that her touch can be used to save instead of destroy.

But Juliette is only just beginning to understand the depth of her power, and she's struggling to fight the desire to use it. She's still haunted by her past, terrified by her future, and too tempted by Warner, who still wants Juliette more than she ever thought possible.

In this exhilarating sequel to Shatter Me, Juliette has to make life-changing decisions between what she wants and what she thinks is right. Decisions that might involve choosing between her heart-and Adam's life.

Expected Date of Publication: February 5, 2013 by HarperCollins

WHY I CAN’T WAIT…

Shatter Me is one of my favorite dystopians. I truly loved the world Tahereh Mafi created in Shatter Me and would certainly love to get to know everything and everyone more. And of course, Adam Kent! Do I really need to say more? And I truly believe that this series is just plain AWESOME!

BOOK REVIEW: Article 5 (Article 5 #1) by Kristen Simmons

As some of you might know I'm a big fan of the dystopian genre and majority of my library consists of dystopian paperbacks. I got my paperback of Article 5 by Kristen Simmons a week ago and finally got to reading it last weekend and finished it today. So yeah, I'm still in the process of letting everything sink in. I've been meaning to read this since last year but just couldn't get around to doing so since there weren't any paperbacks yet and hardbounds are really pricey so yeah I opted to wait for this one. I might not wait for the paperback of Breaking Point anymore though. Haha.

To start with I have this love-hate relationship with Ember, the female protagonist. The first few chapters made me feel so bad for her. Especially when they arrested her mom and everything. I think I would've reacted worse. I can't imagine that being done to me and my mother. But then during the middle part of the book I just can't help but be annoyed by her. Don't get me wrong. I like her but there were times when she just kept on getting frustrating and everything. I know she still doesn't trust Chase and she's been through a lot but she just refuses to listen. And she couldn't even defend herself at that point in the novel so yeah, she kinda' puts Chase and herself at risk most of the time. But towards the end when she found out about everything (I won't say what that everything is so as not to spoil the book. Let's just keep it at "everything". Haha.) I felt really bad for her again. In the end though, I ended up admiring her. She certainly did a lot of growing up and I think she's one of those characters that had a good character development.

Moving on to Chase Jennings. The boy Ember loved and also the MM who arrested her mother. I loved his protective side even if FBR seriously left him broken. I love the fact that he's a kick-ass character who knows how to defend himself and Ember and think even if he is under pressure. And that's why I love male characters more even if I am a girl in real life. He was rational even if he is kinda' brutish. Well, he is a trained FBR officer so yeah, I guess that goes with the package. Anyway, I think his life story-scratch that. Ember and his- story is just heartbreaking. But their scenes together just made me want to root for them from the very first page.

More or less, I really enjoyed reading this book. I couldn't exactly put it down even when I felt so sleepy since I was still reading this at 3am in my bed. It was fast paced and full of action, drama and romance. The world Kristen Simmons created scared the crap out of me though. I can't imagine living in a world where my rights are revoked and only a certain number of people had the power to make decisions for you. I felt bad and it made me actually love our world right now. A world where we have rights and everyone is treated as almost equal citizens. Let's face it. Sometimes people with money are treated better than those who have less. Anyway, this opened my eyes to how our society today is so much better than what could possibly happen if people keep on starting wars and chaos everywhere. I'd recommend this to those people who enjoy awesome dystopian novels. This is probably one of the best I've read so far and I can't wait to get my hands on Breaking Point.

BOOK REVIEW: Splintered by A.G. Howard

So uhm, I got a couple of books from the mail last week and one of them was Splintered by A.G.Howard. I actually pre-ordered this a month ago before its release date. I'm glad I did though. A.G. Howard is so awesome btw. Haven't exactly met her in person yet but I do get to tweet her from time to time and she's just soooooooo AWESOME. Go ahead and tweet her too. Haha. Anyhoo, I actually finished this book two days ago and I'm so happy that I finally found the time to review it. I've been a bit busy these past few days and I really couldn't sit down and write anything about this awesome book.

For the past few months I've been reading a lot of awesome females in books and Alyssa is not an exception. That statement in itself would mean a lot coming from me since I tend to dislike female characters a lot. I don't know why. I just do. Anyway, I love Alyssa. I felt really bad for her since she had to go through her life the way she did. Being separated from her mom probably did it for me. I really can't imagine growing up with an absentee mom. Well, I don't really know if you can call her an absentee mom since she didn't exactly choose being one but I guess she is. I really wanted to be her other mom at some point in the book and I'm just so happy that she wasn't as whiny as some female characters who feel like growing up without a parent is the worst possible thing that could happen to them. I really did find her disturbing in some ways because of her hobbies but as the Filipino saying goes "Walang basagan ng trip!" which is Filipino slang for "Let them do whatever it is that they want to do." Not really good with Filipino to English translations but that's close enough. I did want to smack her every now and then since she refuses to listen to Jeb but then again I guess that's her appeal to me as a character. Living in Wonderland through this book made me a very confusing person. I'm even contradicting myself. Haha.

Moving on to Jeb. First of all, can I just say that I find the lip piercing and punk-esque look so sexy? I don't know what it is but I really find Jeb sexy. Especially, the overprotective Jeb. I just can't help but swoon. I also love the fact that he was the anchor that kept Alyssa tethered to the real world when they were in Wonderland. The fact that he constantly kept on taking care of her just made him all the more alluring for me. I love his loyalty and unconditional love towards Ali. Even if it might come as stalker-ish to others. But honestly, I just think it's awesome in a lot of ways.

And of course, there's Morpheus, our moth/caterpillar/whatever the hell he is. Haha. At first, I actually disliked him since he kept on manipulating everyone around him. He had hidden motives and everything but towards the end I actually started liking him. Yes, he's cunning and sly but he does think and calculate everything he does. And that's usually what gets them out of whatever mess that's they're in at the moment. I'm not saying that I agree with his manipulations and everything but in the end I think he was able to make up for every scheming that he did throughout the book. And I just can't help but love him.

Overall, I enjoyed reading this re-telling of Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Caroll. To be honest, what made me want to buy this book is its gorgeous cover which is something that I call eerily beautiful and really that would be the exact definition of "Judge a book by its cover" but for me this is one of those moments when you just have to look at things in a completely physical aspect and just let the rest follow. Lol. But seriously, this book is just awesome. I felt like I was in an amusement park when I was reading this since a lot of surprises just keep on popping up from everywhere. I love the way Wonderland was described in complete detail. I really love imagining things so describing it the way Ms. Howard did made me want to build my own Wonderland. The details are just exquisite and mesmerizing. There weren't any dull moments as well. It's not exactly fast paced like action movies but it wasn't slow either. It was somewhere in between. I was just that hooked. Anyway, I love the build up of the romance and just plain love (Everyone's sacrifice literally broke my heart in a gazillion pieces. Yes, I am mushy like that.) between the characters. The way they were willing to sacrifice their happiness to save the other was just heartbreaking. Anyway, I love the ending of the novel. I think whatever it is (No, I'm not going to spoil the book because I want you to buy and read it.) that happened is the perfect way to cap everything of. I truly enjoyed this and I'm recommending it to fans of the original Alice in Wonderland novels and Melissa Marr's Wicked Lovely Series.

WHY I CAN’T WAIT…

BOOK REVIEW: Incarnate (Newsoul #1) by Jodi Meadows

I finally got myself a copy of Incarnate by Jodi Meadows after a year of waiting for the paperback edition. I prefer paperbacks since they usually have 'extras' in the end, they're lightweight and they're cheaper than hard bounds. Anyway, I'm glad I did read it before the second book comes out. I might just get the hard bound though because of impatience. Haha.

To start with, I liked the character of Ana. I really felt bad for her all through out the book. Everyone gave her crap because of what she is and she doesn't even know why. I do love the act that she's managed to retain a very good heart though after being treated badly for 18 years. I do understand her reluctance to receive kindness from some people since she did have a very poor upbringing and has been a constant recipient of rejection her entire life. I just wanted to take her away from everything. I do hate her mother for being so cruel to her. The fact that she couldn't even accept her own flesh and blood is awful.

And of course, there's Sam. I loved him from the moment he appeared in the pages of the book. I think his sense of responsibility towards Ana is awesome. The girl deserves to be pampered after everything that she's been through. Anyway, I love the fact that he was patient with Ana. Reaching out to her even if it's so obvious that she finds it difficult to trust anyone even him. He gets her like no one else can which is just awesome and very touching in a lot of ways.

Overall, I loved the book. Everything was really unexpected for me. I haven't exactly read a lot of books that had Reincarnation as their theme but I think this is just awesome. I loved the book. There weren't any dull moments and I just found my self oohing and aahing in some parts. Sam and his friends were just so sweet towards Ana. They actually made her feel welcome even if everyone around her was just so awful to her. But to be honest, what made me gravitate towards the book is the gorgeous cover. I think the though Don't judge a book by its cover should not apply this time around. I'm glad I did though. The novel was just marvelous. It isn't just about reincarnation per se. It is a story of deciding who to become, acceptance and being able to receive and give kindness just because a person deserves it. I think this deserves an easy 5/5 star rating from me.

BOOK REVIEW: Through the Ever Night (Under the Never Sky #2) by Veronica Rossi

I've been pretty much excited about Through the Ever Night ever since I've finished reading Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi. This is probably one of my most anticipated reads of 2013 since its predecessor is one of my favorites from last year. Anyway, this definitely did not disappoint me in any way. I loved it as much as the first novel maybe even more.

So let's start with Aria. I can't even begin to explain how much I love her in this installment. My heart just went out to her every step of the way. She definitely went through a lot in this novel. And it just broke my heart. I'm just glad that Roar was with her every step of the way. I loved their interactions with each other. I just felt bad for her whenever she had to endure the insults and all. But I love her. I think she's one of those characters that I can't possibly hate at this point. Oh yeah, she's a kick ass heroine in this book.

Then of course, there's Perry. He's now the Blood Lord of the Tides. He's definitely fit to be a Blood Lord. I felt so bad for her and Aria since every time he wants to spend some quality time with her they always got interrupted or they have this fear of being discovered by someone. I just felt awful since he always had to think of his tribe's happiness before his own. But I do believe that he is fit to be Blood Lord.

Anyway, my months of waiting was definitely worth it. The shipment of this book was delayed and everything so I had to wait a couple of more weeks after its release date. I think the wait was worth it though. I loved every bit of it. I ended up finishing this in one night. I just couldn't put it down. I love the fact that there weren't any love triangles in this one since Perry and Aria managed to remain monogamous even if they did spend the majority of the book apart and that they had their doubts. That's actually something new when it comes to YA novels.Anyway, my love for Roar did manage to go up another level. I love his protectiveness when it comes to Aria. He treated her like his sister and to be honest that kind of love appeals to me. Anyhow, I loved this book. I love the writing style and I love the lines. There were funny and heartbreaking moments and I just wish that this book didn't have to end or that at least the third book would come out earlier. *crosses fingers* I just love the book. I actually loved it more than the first one and I still can't get over it. It was about survival and love that conquers obstacles, doubts and everything else that might come in between. Anyway, I think this is an easy 5/5 stars for me.

BOOK REVIEW: Deity (Covenant #3) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

So, apparently I need to breathe for a little while before I start writing my review on Deity by Jennifer L. Armentrout. So yeah, breathe in. Breathe out. It's official I am now hooked and I am now a certified Jennifer L. Armentrout fan. And I am now irrevocably in love with Aiden St. Delphi. *Fans self but still ends up swooning* Omigods! I have to say that these books just keep getting better and better.

First of all, I really, really, really wanted to give Alex a hug during the first half of the novel. I mean seriously, being ostracized and everything even if it was partly her fault was just awful. I just felt like for a teenage girl to go through everything that she's been through is just terrible. I felt her sadness whenever she broke down and everything. And then, one revelation after the another comes popping up from somewhere. Honestly, I just felt so proud of Alex for staying intact mentally. I'm just so proud of her. I think she grew up in some ways even if she was still the same girl who acted on impulse most of the time. I just didn't know what to make out of everything that's been going on. And I'm just so proud of Alex for keeping up with everything even if I did get pissed at some point in the story because I felt like she just couldn't make up her mind with her love life. Oh well, she did manage to choose so:  "Yey for her!"

Then of course, there is my oh so yummy Pure Sentinel, Aiden St. Delphi. Omigods! He just upped his game on this one. I am irrevocably in love with him right now. Breathe in. Breathe out. I just love the guy. His protectiveness when it comes to Alex just turned me into mush. All of the scenes between him and Alex just made me want to take a cold shower. Ha! There I've said it! Seriously, everything just made me feel like goo. I just love, love , love Aiden. I also think the scenes between him and Deacon were just hilarious and heartwarming at the same time. The revelation regarding Deacon did surprise me quite a bit. Anyway, I just fell in love with Aiden more in this installment. His devotion to Alex just knows no bounds.

Lastly, there's Seth, the First Apollyon. For some reason, Seth just ticked me off. I know I'm supposed to pity him since Alex was just "settling" for him, as Aiden liked to point out time and time again but he just ticked me off. I wanted to kick him between the legs or something. He was a manipulative jerk and I seriously don't like him at this point. I don't know. I just feel like he was just too unstable and self centered that I found it a bit difficult to read his parts even though I was captivated by the entire book.

Overall, I pretty much enjoyed this book a lot. Probably more than the first two. There were a lot of revelations in this installment that might just spice up the story more if possible. I honestly didn't want this book to end. I kept on prolonging my reading but I just couldn't help but pick it up again and again. The novel was just so captivating and beautifully written that I just couldn't help but pick it up again and again. I loved the appearance of some of the gods as well. The identity of one god didn't really surprise me since I've had my suspicions from the very start but that didn't stop me from squealing when it was revealed. Anyway, the book just kept me hooked and I wasn't really able to do much this Saturday since I just kept on reading. I love this book and I can't wait to get my paperback of Apollyon (Covenant#4) once it's out. Good thing my mom pre-ordered it for me already. I so love my mom. I'm still reeling until now so I am really sorry if you feel like I'm just rambling here. This book is just that AWESOME! It made me laugh, cry, cuss and everything else that I could possibly do at the moment. Aiden being the yummy Sentinel that he is didn't exactly help with my coherence or rather incoherence at the moment.

Rating: An easy 5/5 stars!

BOOK REVIEW: Pure (Covenant #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

After more than a month of waiting for my paperback of Pure by Jennifer L. Armentrout I finally got to finish it. I don't know what it is with these Greek myth but everything about them fascinates me. Anyway, the main characters of the novel are Alexandria "Alex" Andros, Aiden St. Delphi and Seth.

To start with, I got kinda' annoyed with Alex at some point in the book. Don't get me wrong, I still like her despite everything but still she annoyed me because 1) she refuses to listen to anyone 2) she was indecisive at some point and 3) she just refuses to learn from her mistakes. Anyway, I still liked the fact that she was still the same old feisty girl from the first novel. I did like the subtle and not so subtle cuddly moments between her and Aiden and Seth. Don't ask. Just read the book. Anyway, I do believe that she deserves to be commended since her kick assy-ness somehow went up a notch in this book.

Moving on to Aiden St. Delphi. OMIGODS! Can I just drool over this guy? I just love Aiden. Obviously! And I just can't help but feel giddy and flimsy (WTF?! I just used flimsy here?) Anyway, obviously I'm at the brink of insanity here since I just can't help but drool over a fictional character again. I just love him. I love the fact that he was always so calm and calculated even if he tends to have these slip-ups with Alex. I love the fact that he loves her enough that he is willing to give up everything for her. I love Aiden and that's it. Haha.

And now there is the great Apollyon, Seth. He's just very mysterious. And I really feel bad for him at the same time since I feel like Alex is just settling for him. Honestly, no one deserves that. I really don't know what it is about him. He's dreamy. He's gorgeous and everything but there's just something about him that I can't put my finger on. Hopefully, we get to know more about him in the upcoming books.
Overall, I think this one is as enjoyable as the first book. I did want to smack Alex from time to time but other than that she wasn't as unbearable as I imagined her to be. I really love the fact that she is still as kick ass as ever. I did feel bad for her when she ---- ----- that she ----- --- and then was -------- right then and there. Not gonna spoil it. Sorry. Bottom line is, I love the world the Jennifer L. Armentrout created. I love the characters and the storyline. The mention of Greek myths and everything added to the appeal but I think that is just the added bonus. It got me hooked the minute I opened the pages and started to live in the world of the Hematoi and Half's. I'd rate this 5/5 stars again. Obviously, I just loved it that much.

BOOK REVIEW: Alice in Zombieland (White Rabbit Chronicles #1) by Gena Showalter

First of all, Alice in Zombieland has been in my TBR list since last year. I just didn't bother reading it until now. I have no idea why but I actually had it in iBooks for quite some time now. Honestly, I didn't know what to expect from this one since this is my first zombie book. Not exactly a fan of the gory and decomposing monsters. Thank you very much. What got my attention was the mash up between the classic Alice in Wonderland and the zombies. Our "Alice" in this case  is Alice "Ali" Bell.

I have to be honest here. Ali annoyed me the moment she opened her mouth in the book. She was immature and petty and just plain spoiled in some ways. She didn't bother listening to anyone and she just kept on going without even having a plan or a back up plan. Honestly, I like feisty females but in this case I just felt like she just kept on rolling without even using her brain. She almost made the book unbearable for me and I almost did not bother finishing this one. I did like the fact that she's not as helpless as other heroines from other paranormal novels that I've read. I think the fact that she knew how to defend herself in some ways might've helped me to like her even a little.

And of course, with a heroine comes a hero who everyone would adore especially the female readers and his name is Cole Holland. Honestly, one of the good things about this book was Cole. He is probably my ultimate bad boy at this point and as most of my readers know I love bad boys. I think Cole's possessive/ borderline dominant streak is something I find sexy. Plus, the fact that he's one kick ass fighter helps.

Overall, I did enjoy most of the novel especially towards the end. I think Ali grew up at some point. Probably because she had to go through a lot of things. The writing style and the story itself isn't terrible at all. I think it was just Ali herself that did it for me. She truly annoyed me. I did love Ms. Showalter's unique take on the zombie concept being in the spiritual realm. It wasn't really what I was expecting. Yeah, they were still decomposing and ugly I guess but they weren't like the typical zombies who ate BRRRAAAAAIIIINNNNSSSS for dinner. I'd also have to give the side characters some credit. I actually loved them more than Ali. Her friends Poppy and Wren annoyed me though. I felt like they were just there when you were at the top of the food chain but once you're ate the bottom then they just disappear from your life completely. Whatevs. The book did leave a lot of open questions like: What is the connections of Cole and Ali's visions to whatever it is that's going on around them? Why is Ali the way she is? Where does Justin (one of the side characters that I still can't put my finger on. A potential love triangle maybe?) stand in all this? There's definitely a lot more and I guess that's what the upcoming books are for. I didn't really enjoy reading this as much as I thought I would. But to be fair it wasn't a total bust or anything. I did manage to finish it even if Ali seriously annoyed me. I'm giving this a 3/5 star rating. And I'm definitely reading the next book if that's what you're wondering.

Waiting On Wednesday #7

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine. It features each blogger’s most anticipated books.
My pick of the week would be If I Should Die (Revenants #3) by Amy Plum

SUMMARY FROM GOODREADS:

An enthralling and unique paranormal romance, Amy Plum's DIE FOR ME series introduces a new version of the undead with revenants, beings who are fated to sacrifice themselves over and over again to save others' lives.

The final thrilling instalment of Amy Plum's DIE FOR ME series.

I will not lose another person I love. I will not let history repeat itself.

Vincent waited lifetimes to find me, but in an instant our future together was shattered. He was betrayed by someone we both called a friend, and I lost him. Now our enemy is determined to rule over France s immortals, and willing to wage a war to get what they want.

It shouldn t be possible, none of it should be, but this is my reality. I know Vincent is somewhere out there, I know he s not completely gone, and I will do anything to save him.

After what we ve already fought to achieve, a life without Vincent is unimaginable. He once swore to avoid dying - to go against his nature and forsake sacrificing himself for others - so that we could be together. How can I not risk everything to bring my love back to me?

Expected Date of Publication: MAY 1, 2013 BY HARPERTEEN/ LITTLE BROWN BOOK GROUP (AUSTRALIA)

WHY I CAN’T WAIT…

I loved the first two novels in the series. I love Kate. I love Vincent. And I fell in love in Paris. Plus, this is a unique take on the concept of the undead. They're neither zombies, spirits or vampires. How awesome is that? Plus, Amy Plum is just sooooooo nice. I would truly miss the world that Amy Plum built as the series ends but I still can't wait for this to be out.

BOOK REVIEW: Daimon (Covenant #0.5) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

This going to be a very short review since Daimon is just a prequel/ novella to the entire Covenant Series. Anyhow, it focuses on the life Alex and her mother lived when they left the Covenant.

I just can't imagine how my life would be if the things that happened to Alex happened to me. Honestly, this novella just made me love her more. She's such a strong and awesome character. I wouldn't blame her for the way that she acted when things started to go from bad to worse in just minutes. Anyway, you'll see why she is the way she is when you read this.

I have this love/hate thing when it comes to novellas. I feel like they're just too short and I always end up reading them in just one sitting. This novella did answer a lot of questions so yeah, if you are a fan and you want to delve deeper into Alex's character then you should go ahead and grab this book.I'd give this a 4/5 star rating though since I feel like it was just too short.

BOOK REVIEW: Half-Blood (Covenant #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

It's official. I am a certified Jennifer L. Armentrout fan. I finally got my hands on a paperback of Half-Blood (Covenant #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout and yes, I am in love with it. She's a genius. I seriously couldn't believe that I just started this series now. Anyway, the novel circles around Greek Myths and of course, the gods so yeah, it did get my attention. I've been meaning to read this for quite some time now but the book is kinda' expensive here in the Philippines and my TBR just keeps on piling up.

To start with, I really like kick ass heroines so yeah, I started adoring Alexandria/Alex the moment I started reading Half-Blood. I love her snarky comebacks and the fact that she doesn't take sh*t from anyone. She is a half-blood by the way.Her mom is a Pure and her dad is an ordinary human. I did want to strangle her from time to time since she refuses to listen even when it's so obvious that she should. Her hot temper always got in the way of her thinking and everything just goes downhill from there. Anyway, the fact that she managed to stand tall after everything that she's been through just proves how awesome she really is.

And of course, with a feisty heroine comes a cool, calm, sexy and everything that's hot male counterpart, Aiden. Aiden is a pure and he is Alexandria's love interest. He's a sentinel and a relationship between Pures and Half-Bloods is strictly forbidden. Anyway, I love Aiden. He was just so dreamy and everything that a girl could ever ask for. He offered to train Alex in order for her to remain in the Covenant despite the fact that he's a full time Sentinel and not a teacher. Anyway, on the outside he always seems so cold and aloof but whenever I see glimpses of his gentle and charming side I just can't help but melt in a puddle. Seriously, how can someone be that dreamy? Anyway, I cant wait to read more about him Pure. TBD?? Where the hell is my copy of Pure?

And then, there's the appearance of Seth, the Apollyon. I don't really want to dive deeper into what an Apollyon is since I might just end up spoiling the novel for those who haven't read it yet but I smell the beginning of a love triangle of some sort. We'll see. I actually like Seth since he seems bubbly even if he can be unstable at times but other than that I think he's a cool character. We'll see as the story goes.

Overall, I enjoyed reading another one of Jennifer L.Armentrout's novels. She's a genius and she's just that awesome since her novels come out really fast. I love the build up of the story. It wasn't too fast or too slow. The love story which is very minimal at this point is actually quite refreshing since the author steer cleared of the whole instalove trend that seems to be so famous in the YA genre. The sexual tension or whatever it is that people might want to call it between the characters is very subtle and made me enjoy the story even more. It was sexy, it was captivating and everything about it refused to let me put it down. I'd definitely think this deserves a 5/5 star rating. I love this series. Another favorite from Jennifer L. Armentrout. I might even love this even more than the Lux Series.

BOOK REVIEW: Opal (Lux #3) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

I finally got my paperback of Opal by Jennifer L. Armentrout from The Book Depository and as always this series did not disappoint. I loved this as much as I loved the first two books in the series. I did want to smack Katy from time to time but hey, there were a lot of Daemon and Dawson so yeah, you get the picture. *nomnomnom*

To start with, I don't know if I still like Katy as much as I liked her during the first two novels. Seriously, she just refuses to listen and I just have no idea why. After everything that happened, she still refuses to listen. I don't know why but it kinda' ticked me off a bit. I know I like my female characters to be someone who could actually defend herself but sometimes I think she just has to accept the fact that she holds Daemon back in some ways. So yeah, it's really not that bad to sometimes know when you're just supposed to suck it up and just listen. Anyhoo, I still like their banter and the fact that she's managed to connect with both Daemon and Dawson in some ways. I mean not sexually or whatever with Dawson but in friendly kind of way. And my heart went out to her because of all the guilt that she felt. I still love Katy despite her flaws.

And moving on to our yummy alien twins, Daemon and Dawson. These two were just so different it was just so easy to tell them apart. I love them both even if Dawson was just too gloomy for his own good. He did go through a lot of awful things and he just got back so yeah, he's excused. I like both brothers because of their devotion towards their partners. Every time Daemon opened his mouth just made me turn into mush. Seriously, it should be illegal to be that seductive and hot even for a fictional character. Anyhow, also love the fact that Dawson somehow also seemed protective of Katy. Not in the way that Daemon is but like someone who actually cares about his brother's girlfriend or something. I don't know. I just think it's really sweet. I don't even know if it's just me but whatever.

Overall, I loved this novel as much as the first two in the series. Daemon still has that effect on the female species I guess. The fact that a fictional character actually made me feel like mush is definitely something. I did miss some characters like Adam and Dee. I think a part of Dee actually died along with Adam. I also love the fact that Matthew seems more open to Katy and Daemon now. He is the closest thing to a father that the Luxen have after all. The return and appearance of certain characters surprised me though. I think this novel is just as enjoyable as Obsidian and Onyx. The cliffhanger ending is such a doozy though. I was like WTF?! Nuuuuuu. That did not just happen! Anyway, it just made me want to read Origins more though.

Rating: 4.5/5 stars

BOOK REVIEW: Hopeless by Colleen Hoover

Another Colleen Hoover masterpiece. I just finished reading Hopeless a few hours ago and it has yet to sink in. I have no idea how Colleen comes up with these awesome stories. I loved her first two novels Slammed and Point of Retreat. In fact, I loved it so much I ended up ordering paperbacks even though I've read them already as ebooks. And I'm definitely getting Hopeless in paperback once it's available as well. I have to give my good friend and fellow blogger, Jona, credit for introducing me to Colleen Hoover and her novels btw.

To start with the novel's main character is called Sky. A 17 year old girl who was adopted and knows nothing about her past. She's lived her life by being stoic most of the time and could easily be mistaken for someone who is emotionally impaired. Honestly, it was so difficult for me to think of the way she has been living her life for years. I didn't even know if I wanted to be like her or pity her. Let's all face it there comes a time in our lives when we just want to feel nothing because everything just seems to hurt too much. Anyway, I love the fact that she was able to overcome her hurdles as the story progressed. I wanted to hug her every time she discovers something awful about her past. I do love Sky. I love the development of the story and I love the fact that after everything that she's been through that she has managed to grow up and go on with her life.

And of course, Colleen's novel wouldn't be complete without the oh so yummy Holder. I think I just found my soul mate. This guy is everything a girl could ever ask for. I just love everything about Holder. His intensity. His temperaments. His brutish and gentle ways. I just love everything about him. I love the fact that he was there for Sky the entire time she felt so hopeless. No pun intended. I love the way he knew how to handle or take care of her. He knew when he should be gentle and when he should just be rough. I just love a guy who knows what a girl needs even if he is broken himself.

Overall, I loved this novel as much as Slammed and Point of Retreat. I'm not comparing them since honestly, there is nothing compare. They're completely different from each other. What I do know is I love Colleen Hoover's writing style. It's the way she comes up with these lines that could melt the Ice Queen's heart. I'm telling you if Colleen were a guy then ladies be prepared to be swept off your feet. I love Hopeless. It made me feel a lot of emotions that I didn't even know I was capable of feeling. I felt like I was riding a roller coaster the entire time I was reading and I loved it. Believe me, that is saying a lot. I'm terrified of roller coasters. I cried. I laughed. I swooned. I really felt all the high's and low's of the entire story. It wasn't just a sappy love story between two teenagers who wanted a real relationship. It was about coping and making things right despite the fact that everything is just so messed up. The message the novel conveyed is so powerful I needed a few hours to let it all sink in. Anyway, I'm definitely getting myself a paperback of this one as soon as possible. I'd give this a 10/5 star rating if it were possible but alas, only 5/5 stars can be given. I might actually love this a little bit more than Slammed and Point of Retreat.

WAITING ON WEDNESDAY#6

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine. It features each blogger’s most anticipated books.

My pick of the week would be Goddess (Starcrossed #3) by Josephine Angelini

SUMMARY FROM GOODREADS:

After accidentally unleashing the gods from their captivity on Olympus, Helen must find a way to re-imprison them without starting a devastating war. But the gods are angry, and their thirst for blood already has a body count.

To make matters worse, the Oracle reveals that a diabolical Tyrant is lurking among them, which drives a wedge between the once-solid group of friends. As the gods use the Scions against one another, Lucas’s life hangs in the balance. Still unsure whether she loves him or Orion, Helen is forced to make a terrifying decision, for war is coming to her shores.

In Josephine Angelini’s compelling conclusion to the masterfully woven Starcrossed trilogy, a goddess must rise above it all to change a destiny that’s been written in the stars. With worlds built just as fast as they crumble, love and war collide in an all-out battle that will leave no question unanswered and no heart untouched.

Expected Date of Publication: MAY 28, 2013 BY HARPERTEEN/ MACMILLAN (UK)

WHY I CAN’T WAIT…

My love for Greek mythology just knows no bounds. Plus, the fact that I loved the first two books in the series. And the fact that I love Josephine Angelini. She's just so nice. Anyway, the ending of Dreamless is such a doozy and now I need this book. I've been anticipating the last book since I finished reading the second one and I just can't believe that in a few months it would be out and Luca, Helen and Orion's stories would come to an end. Anyway, I just need to have this right now.

PS: I've posted the cover of the UK edition as well since I got the Starcrossed and Dreamless in that edition. And if you're wondering why this is the sixth when you can't find the other five on this blog then you might want to check THIS. Thank you!

BOOK REVIEW: Princess for Hire (Princess for Hire #1) by Lindsey Leavitt

I finished reading Princess for Hire by Lindsey Leavitt a few days ago. It was supposed to be a quic read but I got too busy during the holidays that I ended up reading it in a couple of days. Anyhow, I really enjoyed reading it and I'm waiting for it's sequel from The Book Depository. I ordered a lot of books during the holidays. Unfortunately, I haven't received any of them yet. The novel is about the Facade Agency and Desi Bascomb who happens to have the dream job of every girl in the world. And yes, that is to be a substitute princess for all of the royals out there.

First of all, I really liked Desi. I like her for being such a non-conventional girl. Yes, she's a princess substitute but that doesn't make her a damsel in distress type of girl. Though I did want to smack from time to time since she has a crush on this guy and I absolutely have no idea what she sees in him at all. Anyway, I think being a princess substitute changed her for the better.

Overall, I enjoyed reading this book though I'd probably recommend this to the younger audience. It was really short though. I think it could've been extended or something. The writing style is very simple and very understandable which is good since this makes it easier for the younger audience to understand. It reminded me of Meg Cabot's The Princess Diaries. I haven't exactly read any of the novels yet but the movie kinda' reminded me of this novel. Anyhow, it was lacking in some elements but it is truly enjoyable and I can't wait to get my hands on the second novel in the series. I'd give this a 4/5 star rating just because of its cuteness factor.
